Personally, I would prefer if the layout was kept more minimalistic and clean, which is probably the reason why a lot of people have gotten attached the current design.
I don't believe a minimalistic design can ever go out of date, and in fact, there has been a trend the past couple of years where big sites have been cleaning up their layout, making the pages less crowded.
The saying "less is more" is very appropriate here, I think you had it right the first time. The new design, although I have no doubts is superior in many ways, is from an aesthetics point of view more flashy and corporate and a lot less personal (that includes the new logo).
The new background image to the list/film in particular IMO serves no real purpose besides crowding up the feel of each page.
Just my 2 cents, only trying to offer some honest feedback.
Similar movies - reaaaaaally nice. The whole view - quite nice. Different, but nice. I will miss the old design, but this looks promising, I just really hope, we will have something similar to "progress" page 'cause this is my favourite place in whole Icheckmovies. Every official list in one place, with simple stats.
Looks really promising!
...if a bit on the "busy" side - the layout seems a bit crowded. Will it be possible to collapse and/or permanently remove elements that I'm not interested in? I.e. if I didn't care about related movies, could I remove them from the layout? (I do care, but as an example)
Also, please include an IMDb link in the film header, so that I can access info on the film, no matter which section (Info, In lists etc.) I'm in.
I like it, but it does remind me too much of Facebook; and way too many sites use blue these days anyway. No desire to keep the original red/green/beige palette?
I know you guys have been working hard on it, and I hate to be negative + I know I'll get used to it eventually, but: The current design is not showing it's age, and it is far better than your future lay out. The simplicity is what's great with this site - the new lay out is messy. Everything is there at once! Also: If the IMDb link is gone, damn, that's one short cut I always use so that I can rate a film after I've checked it. Your new product is inferior, but at least you made some improvements based on the feedback from the forum. I know you'll go ahead with it anyway, and as I said I will continue to use the site, I just don't understand why you'd unnecessarily complicate and completely change a beloved product. At least many members seem positive, so maybe I'm the minority.
Looking forward to the new design. There's always room for improvement. There are too many drop-down menus in the current design, and the new one looks to change that. Regarding suggestions:
- Definitely have an IMDb link
- Make sure the "similar movies" isn't just recommending more popular films
What will be the criteria to be called a "similar film"? I don't see the link between Amelie and Big Fish as shown in the example picture.
And, for the love of God, please include a direct IMDb-link in the movie pages! That's crucial if you're looking for an old movie with the same title as 20 others.
For sentimental reasons, I'd definitely hope that strip of film is still kept in the design somewhere! But overall, I VERY much look forward to the new design. Thank you all for working so hard!
Design looks nice. I'm curious about how it will look on a smartphone/tablet!
One thing i'm missing on ICM is a short description of the story. Now I always have to use the IMDB website to see what the movie is about.. Would be a nice thing to include in the new design.
not sure how i feel about this - part of what is so great about ICM is its simplistic feel. this new design seems trendy, and honestly already dated. writing this on my iphone, i'm excited for the new functionality, and sure it will be great, i'm just not thrilled about the complete redesign.
I was wondering for a while what you guys were up to...
My first reaction was - as it should be when a true fan looks at any new design - "yuck!". A second look made me realise only a moment later that the only "yuck" thing was the "icheckmovies" in golden letters. A third look convinced me that while I'll really miss the current design, the new one looks absolutely amazing! (except for those golden letters, get them out!)
Keep up the good work guys!
edit: I do disagree that the current design is showing it's age, I think it's great, but I understand you want to change it. IMDB urls were much appreciated, get those in!
