    Letterboxd Top 100 Animated Films

Favs/dislikes: 5:0. "100 highest-rated feature-length animated films on Letterboxd. Minimum 1,000 ratings. Updated on January 1, 2022. Sequels to shows or anime series—Japanese, American or from elsewhere—that need greater context before watching are not included. Those that are included can be enjoyed on a standalone basis—and I've taken the decision to remove films that only do a brief recap (such as Steven Universe: The Movie) at the beginning that may not give the quality of context necessary for enjoyment. The rationale for this decision is so that viewers can finish this list without having to see a multitude of other episodes and films. End of Evangelion is not included because it is a sequel to an anime series; Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time is included because it's part of a standalone four film series. In addition, series recaps are also not included. These decisions have been made to keep the list consistent and achievable. Please feel free to create your own list if you disagree."

Mary J. Ainslie's and Katarzyna Ancuta's Thai Cinema - The Complete Guide

Favs/dislikes: 5:0. "One of the fastest growing and most internationally renowned cinemas in Southeast Asia is that of Thailand. In the first ever book devoted solely to this major centre of creative filmmaking, experts on contemporary and historic Thai film provide a timely overview and discussion of key films, directors and current movements in the region in a comprehensive encyclopaedia format." "What many critics, analysts and scholars have retrospectively christened `New Thai Cinema' began to take shape in the late 1990s when national film moved away from its position as lower-class and provincial entertainment and became a firm fixture in Bangkok multiplexes and festivals worldwide. This book will provide information on the influential figures behind the films - up to and succeeding the 1997 watershed film Dang Bireley's and Young Gangsters that began the breakaway movement - as well as detailing and explaining the traditions of popular and art-house genres specific to Thailand. Featuring contributions on Thai visionaries such as Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Wisit Sasanatieng and providing rare insight into early Thai cinema, this is an essential scholarly guide to a vibrant aspect of Southeast Asian cinema - its history, industry and aesthetic trends - for scholars and students alike." Films ranked in the same order as in the book: 1-23 Key Early Productions 24-32 New Thai Cinema 33-40 Heritage / Nostalgia 41-64 Nang Phi / Nang Sayong Khwan / Horror 65-76 Muay Thai / Action 77-92 Comedy / Romantic Comedy 93-102 Queer Cinema 103-106 Animation 107-122 Independent Cinema Not found in ICM or IMDb: Nithan Khong Lung Rueang Waen Wiset (1929) Mae Nak Phra Khanong (1959) Ngoen Ngoen Ngoen (1965) Ngu Phi (1966) Pisat Saneha (1969) Monrak Lukthung (1970) Tone (1970) The transliteration of Thai movie titles often differs considerably in the book and IMDb, which may prevent the identification of films in ICM and IDMb.

She received her secondary education in Barre, Vermont and then Syracuse University. Upon graduation, she went to New York to become a ballet dancer, but instead gravitated towards Broadway revues and vaudeville instead. After ten years on the stage as a successful actress, she joined Paramount in 1930 and became one of Hollywood's top-ranking stars with an Academy Award nomination for "Becky Sharp" in 1936. She returned to the stage as her movie career slowed in the forties. She died in New York City in 1972.
