Favs/dislikes: 2:0. The First appearance of the prize is for the XLII edition of the Ariel Awards. Since the prize is given to the director, the XLII and the XVLVII winners, O Primeiro Dia (Brazil) and Whisky (Uruguay), had two awards, one for each director. In the 53rd edition, there was a tie between José Martí: El ojo del canario (Cuba) and También la lluvia (España). In the 59th edition, there was another tie between El ciudadano ilustre (Argentina) and The Second Mother (Brazil). P.S. The winning year of a movie doesn't always correlate to the year it was made.
