Anchorman 2 is not as good Anchorman. If that's all you need to know, now you know.

That said, there are a few funny moments, but very few that are memorable in the way the original movie's one liners were. It's notable that the film tried to avoid repeating a lot of the old jokes from the first film for as long as it could, and then released them all as a big finale.

The most remarkable part of Anchorman 2 is its straightforward commentary on the importance of "real" news versus the dreck that 24-hour news channels produce. That, in its serious tone and importance, may be the most memorable part of this comedy.

EDIT: Upon watching the film a second time, now in its alternate edit (advertised as having 738 new jokes), I have to give this film a better review. The editing it tighter, the jokes funnier, the musical numbers wilder, and the general atmosphere lighter and funnier. If you recall how much the original anchorman changed (for the worse) when it went to video release, you'll be pleasantly surprised to learn that Anchorman 2's video release is a lovely improvement to the film. Is it amazing? No, but it is a great time.

Had more fun with this movie than I expected. Some parts are not entertaining at all, but overall a pretty enjoyable movie

I gotta say, I didn't find this funny at all. And I loved the first Anchorman. Oh well.

Great comedy, this movie is a lot of fun, Will Ferrell is fantastic, the jokes are great, the cameos are out of this world, I love the first movie and I love the second.

The only redeemable aspect of this movie was the long list of cameo appearances by respected comedic talent. Why they agreed to appear in this movie is beyond me. Half of the jokes aren't even grounded in reality. A ghost sucking out peoples' soles-- Will Ferrell raising (and later fighting) a shark-- a minotaur?! Please. Don't soil your appreciation for the first Anchorman by watching this movie. Seriously.

Well the continuation of the legend is not so legendary. Anchorman 2 has lost the originality, which made Anchorman the hilarious cult-comedy it is. No surprise, cause that's often what happens with sequels - Building on old jokes instead of reinventing. The curse of heritage.
The story is also messy and unstructured with too many side plots in a desperate hunt for the laugh of audiences.
It reeks the fear of failing the popularity of its predecessor, but that's exactly what happens.

However, if you love Will Farrel and the news-gang, the exaggerated black humor, the vulgar and foolish jokes, and last but not least Carell's absent-minded, or just retarded, character, Bric -
THEN you're going to be entertained in some parts of the movie and you are absolutely going to laugh a lot - problem is, that it's mainly out of nostalgia.

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is one of those comedies that will always live on as a comedy classic of the 2000's just as movies like Caddyshack or The Naked Gun are comedy classics of the 80's. The 2004 Will Ferrell comedy was unbelievably quotable and packed to the gills with jokes and wacky situations. I watched Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy a lot through my high school years and even though some of the laughs have diminished now, it still holds a special place in my movie memories.

Who exactly would say no to a sequel to Anchorman? It's true that the risks of being unable to match the improvisational energy from the first are there but with the opportunity to see Ron and the gang again is too hard to resist. I was excited myself to hear when Anchorman 2 was in production and read about all the casting tidbits that came out here and there. With a bevy of marketing before the film's release, it's like Ron Burgundy was real and he was everywhere.

Seven years after the events of Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, happily married Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) and Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate) have a son and are co-anchors on a national New York news station. Mack Tannen, (Harrison Ford) the lead anchor decides to retire and decides to promote Veronica as lead anchor while also firing Ron for his ineptitude. Jealousy gets the better of Ron and he storms out of their home and finds himself back in San Diego struggling to hold a second rate job at Sea World as a presenter. Things look up when he gets an offer to be an anchor on GNN, the first 24 hour news channel that will be launching soon.

So the big question here is, how does the comedy stack up compared to the original Anchorman? Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues is like a non-stop stream of joke after joke. In the space of like ten seconds, there may be about three jokes in there. With all that material there's bound to be some jokes that miss and that's true. It almost seems like Adam McKay and Will Ferrell are trying too hard but the thing is, when the jokes work it's absolutely gorgeous. For all the misses that there are, the hits more than make up for them. From the unbelievable cameos which I won't spoil to the ridiculous situations, Anchorman 2 has more than enough genuine laughs to keep it going.

Will Ferrell flips his Ron Burgundy switch into overdrive. He's written some great material with McKay which I'm sure is supplemented by a healthy dose of improv along the way. Paul Rudd and David Koechner in their respective roles are more than a welcome sight but I have to admit that I'm a little bit disappointed with Steve Carell's performance as Brick Tamland. There are a couple times where he shines but a lot of that is ruined by quite a few unfunny moments along with a romantic storyline that is totally unnecessary. That's just my opinion but Brick was better when he wasn't as featured.

Besides the main characters, the secondary characters are also pretty great. James Marsden as Jack Lime is a great antagonist and has lots of great material. With seven years having gone by, there's still lots of stuff to be satired like sexism, racism, synergy, patriotism, the 24-hour news cycle and so on. spoiler

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues is not as good as its predecessor. It's clear though that Adam McKay and Will Ferrell did not fall asleep at the wheel and they put a lot of hard work into making this sequel. There are enough jokes that at least some of them will stick and trust me, they really do stick. There are also plenty of quotable lines for everyone and I couldn't help but have a blast watching Anchorman 2. Being back in Ron Burgundy's world is not something that should be passed up for Anchorman fans. I'm not sure how well it'll stand up to repeat watchings but time will tell. In the meantime, you stay classy San Diego. I'm Ron Burgundy?

Absolutely horrible. Anchorman is a classic. This sequel is just trying to relive the former glory and fails miserably.

Incredibly disappointing. It really felt like they sat around the writer's table going "Remember that joke in the first one that people liked? Let's do it again in the sequel!" ("By the __ of ___!" got old pretty fast)

the first 2/3 of the movie teetered between good an bad. It was mostly one lines that were obviously the picked as the best of a dozen takes. The editing in some parts really pointed that out. While the first one was funny from not just one liners but how these guys are in everyday life, this one mostly relies on the one-liners. The plot is pretty good, albeit not very funny.

It isn't until the final 3rd of the movie does it really find it's foothold and shine. I dont wanna give away too much, but it involves a shark and possible the greatest collection of cameos a single scene has ever had in the history of cinema. That final act made the whole movie worth the admission.

if you can get past the first 2/3 of the movie (which i hear a lot of people liked, i just wasn't that impressed), the last part makes up for it in strides.

Typical retread sequel trash. Having trouble recalling any of the jokes a few days later, much less any I laughed at.

spoiler It is not because you yell it that it will be funnier. The whole movie was preposterous, obnoxious and worse... boring.

I love Anchorman, I love Wake Up Ron Burgundy but this one was a big fat cash-grab.
