Holy Shit - this is a powerful movie. The best performances are by a 12 year old boy and A BABY! Both deserve Oscars! You never quite know where this film is going even though most of it is flashbacks. The last 10 seconds of the film finally pushed me over the edge and I cried like a baby - but happy tears. There is nothing formalistic about this film and every time you think you know where it is going it doesn't go there. It is unsentimental and unflinching but there is a human tenderness running through this brutal story.
I'm starting the awards campaign now: baby Yonas for Best Supporting Actor.
Loved the boy and the baby's scenes! I laughed and I cried so much. He has to be the best big brother in the history of cinema! Such raw and genuine tenderness in that boy's heart despite everything. And such suffering too. His eyes are incredibly powerful. Throughout the film you can really feel what he is going through just by looking into his eyes.
