It took me a while to get into it as i didn't really like the first 20-30 minutes or so. But i'm so glad i just kept watching this! Getting closer to the end, you could just feel something terrible was going to happen. I just sat there, in full suspense waiting for the ending. And when it did finally happen, i totally wasn't ready for it. It was still very shocking.
Lots of hidden messages of the trapped society and trying to break through the everyday rules and morals. The dark underworld that cannot be seen past, in this great film.
As xwisex noted, has a lot in common with Do the Right Thing, but has its own unique style, as well as some ambitious (if showy) camera work. A worthwhile watch, and a view into a part of Paris rarely seen in most French films that attain international acclaim.
