Pointless sequel, offers nothing new or interesting. Barely ok, made passable by a good cast.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For came out an inexplicable 9 years after the first film - they even had to recast characters - an unsurprisingly bombed. But once we forgive its lack of box office momentum, do we have a good film. If you liked the first Sin City, it's more of the same, so yeah, but the striking visuals are no longer so surprising. The thing I didn't like about the first Sin City was that having read the comics, it gave me a big case of deja vu. I wasn't seeing anything new. For all its artistry, it was a motion comic I'd already "read". (It also gave Zack Snyder license to make copycat movies, so I may never forgive it.) The second film actually creates two original storylines, a really fun gambling tale starring Joseph Gordon Levitt, and a climax for long-dangling plot threads. So even if I could still remember A Dame to Kill For (which I didn't really, at this point), this movie would have been more interesting to me. A Dame to Kill For is nevertheless the stone on which the film is built and it's a good femme fatale story, though Eva Green is naked through so much of it, it actually became uncomfortable. I know the comic was exploitative, but sheesh.

When you see a character climbing through an open window, and he voice-overs that he's climbing through an open window, it's time to go back to script-writing school.

Eva Green so beautiful so evil.
My favourite character it has to be JGL, Josh Brolin brings nothing new, Mickey Rourke is the same, Alba's character gets an improvement, but in overall JGL and Eva Green steals the show for me.

I'd be interested in seeing a super edit, blending both movies in chronological order. Someone get on that. :P

Meh. Visually, it's just as good if not better than the first one and the cinematography is brilliant but unfortunately, the poor excuse of a script falls flat and lets the direction down.

I liked the story featuring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but found the rest to be boring and derivative. You may as well just watch the first.

Normally I'm a fan of 3D, but you're not missing much if you see this one in two dimensions. The 3D snow was cool, but the ghosting (and I'm not referring to Willis's character) about cancelled it out. At least the cheap fake-aspect-ratio trick works better with this movie's comic-book feel than it did with Life of Pi.

I am not a big fan of so-called "3D" movies but this was one that is necessary to see in the over-hyped format. If you have read the source material, this is nothing more than just a live adaptation of the graphic novel. The visuals are stunning and will only work if you see on the biggest screen possible. The acting is as good as such a cliched-ridden story can be. The performances are not over-the-top but not full of cheese either, they are true to the characters that Frank Miller created with his story. Everyone has their own favorite Sin City story and this was probably my second favorite after "Hell and Back."

Didn't have any expectations coming in, and I was very pleased. The visual effects are still absolutely stunning, awesome performances (especially by Eva Green - but that's no surprise) and good storylines (especially the one with Joseph Gordon-Levitt - super fun). Good sequel!

Why'd they put all that latex on poor Mickey Rourke's face when they could've just hired Robert Z'dar to play Marv?

It's as though the first movie never finished, playing continuously for all these years
