A remarkable achievement on many fronts. The animation, of course, is stellar. Water and particle effects are especially convincing, and you'll sometimes feel like it's all actors with prosthetics. Unlike other motion capture animated films (like Beowulf or even The Polar Express), the character work isn't creepy and I found myself liking them a lot. I'm most impressed by the script however. I'm not sure who did what, but I can certainly feel Steven Moffat's assured hand on the plot itself, which manages to merge two disparate Tintin books - The Crab with the Golden Claws and The Secret of the Unicorn - into a single coherent story. He didn't put one on the end of the other, mind you. He actually amalgamated them into a single story. The addition of various original cinematic action and/or cartoony slapstick sequences makes it even more surprising for Tintin fans. Though I knew the basic beats and characters, I never knew what was actually coming next. That cameo by Hergé himself was only the first of my many involuntary grins throughout. If I had one complaint, it's the opening score, which I found lackluster. I'm so over John Williams' work, it's not even funny.

Apparently, Steven Spielberg discovered one thing: he can do anything he wants in the world of animation. The action sequences and spoiler are truly inspired.

I'd like to see another Tintin movie in the near future, just for those entertaining action scenes... sadly, it's far away from happening.

It's a fantastic little adventure film packed with action and humour. Great visuals, great plot. The chase scenes were a bit elaborate and could've been shorter but I did enjoy the film nonetheless.

Then again ... what else could you expect from a collaboration between Spielberg and Jackson?!

Looking forward to the second installment!

I prefer to read the books, the film has some parts that are too much unreal even for a animated movie, the cast is awesome

the action scenes remind me of the Uncharted video games so damn much. Not sure if good or bad.

Meh. The animation was technically great, but I can't shake the feeling that this would have been a much more enjoyable film if it were live action. They spent however many millions bringing the animation into the uncanny valley, so why not just shoot it for real? I also had trouble getting caught up in the story. Every Spielberg trope is on full display here, but the plot just isn't very interesting. I was bored from the first scene to the last. Meh.

Hell has frozen over. Words are now being prepared for me to eat. 3D is a viable and exciting format in cinema. In the hands of someone as innovative and masterful as Steven Spielberg 3D is no longer a gimmick. There are moments in Tintin that are as exciting and inspiring as anything I've seen in movies. Its a shame the script is not up to the challenge. Though an incredibly fun movie, it misses the mark. Which is a shame, cause this is the Spielberg I love, and this could have been an all timer. I'm gonna see it again in the theater just for the motorcycle chase and pirate sequences.

Disappointing, but definitely watchable. I liked the action sequences but... I just didn't care all that much... I think CGI still has some way to go before it can create truly genuine human emotions in a way we can empathise with, motion captured or otherwise. I found Tin Tin and Haddock odd to look at and pretty annoying as characters to be honest. Snowy was good though.

Disappointing to say the least.
Has this not been animated, it would hardly register, anywhere. The animation is brilliantly done but it's completely soulless and weak. Who casted Andy Serkis as Haddock?! I love that guy, and I wail in agony that he was so horribly miscast here.

I'm not sure what I was expecting really... perhaps that the impressive list of directors/writers/cast/producers/composers etc coupled with a substantial budget would at least guarantee an enjoyable experience?
The only Academy Award nomination Tintin received was for original score. Yes, the same score that is ridiculously overbearing and cliched to such a degree, you wished they would simply turn it off completely. Ran out of steam, John Williams?

I did not watch this in 3D, but I recognized the potential in many scenes.

Very dissapointed, I know this was an adaption because its very difficult to shoot a movie from one book, but it strays so far from the original source material that it simply is not tintin any more. It is all dumbed down for american audiences with over the top action and a simple revenge plot, not smart satire, politics and the pursuit of hegemony like the comics showed us.
Just look at what spielberg did to the kingdom of the crystal skull, he has joined Lucas as a lazy director with too many special effects at his disposal. It was absolutely Ridiculous.

Started very well indeed; gradually deteriorated and Hollywoodificated as it went on.
