Another one I just didn’t get. This movie had lots to offer but excelled in nothing. The plot was pretty basic/not hard to figure out where it was going after a certain point but the execution of a lot of the action/horror was also kinda bland. The two main actors are good but everyone else is meh, production values felt pretty cheap as well. I don’t get the hype.

I agree with two hot points: Amazing soundtrack, and the first half of the movie is the better half. Worth watching.

Starts out really good but this thriller goes way overboard in the last 30minutes without a satisfying explenation about who, what and why........never dull but missed opportunity

This was a lot of fun and a great platform for Dan Stevens to cast off the period drama shackles he could very easily be type-casted with forever.

The Guest, a super-soldier gone bad thriller than really sings AS a thriller in the first half, but unfortunately devolves into an 80s action flick in the second. Ah well. Up front, Dan Stevens is extremely effective as a Iraq conflict veteran at once charming and sinister, who seduces his dead buddy's family members and embeds himself into their lives. The soundtrack is pretty great, by turns soothing and shocking, just like the main character is. But then we cut away to some military types, and it's suddenly not a thriller or a metaphor for your kid coming back from the war changed for both the better and the worse. It's just a lot of violence and horror/thriller clichés. The music is still good, just not as clever as it was in the first half.

The only thing I found weird about this movie is that there is no emergency exit in the Halloween hall???????
Overall, I thought it was great and the ending had me doubting everything about it.

I'm surprised this one got so much critical love. Thought it was a decent, campy thriller but basically forgettable. The last ten minutes redeem a lot, though.

Good first half (pacing, build, etc.) but the second half gets a little predictable and somewhat corny. Has the feel of a 1980's thriller (Terminator, Road House) and the awesome soundtrack helps to emphasize this feeling.

Overall, a solid action/thriller that's worth checking out; a nice throwback-feel film and decent acting by some of the main cast.

This Dan Stevens guy, it has a future in acting, he remembers me of a Ryan Gosling and Paul Walker mix.

Good recommendation by a friend of mine. A superior movie in comparison of Adam Wingard's previous movie You're Next.

The squirmy, Highsmith-esque tension in the first half segues into a John Carpenter-esque, tongue-in-cheek 80s action extravaganza in the second half. It worked for me. Loved the soundtrack and Dan Stevens' Tom Ripley-meets-Terminator performance.

All the hype ruined this movie for me. Predictable, implausible, with a very loose and convenient back story. When we look back at this film in a decade it will be a lite trash/camp flick, nothing more. 3/5.

I really liked the OST as well, but from a creative angle, it's almost frustrating to see how much the soundtrack is inspired by Drive. (Even the lead looks similar to Gosling!) Imagine Refn not being there the last 3 years and this film here would seem a lot more innovative.

Otherwise, a nice, thrilling piece with great set-up and a few strong scenes (the bar, the principal) and a few cliche moves towards the end. Recommended.
