You destroyed a single Drej battleship... but the movie begins with a genocidal Drej armada. The human race is more doomed concentrated together on defenseless, sitting duck planet Bob than they were as refugees scattered across the galaxy.
Given that John du Pont was insane and that the murder had no logical or discovered motive, the 2 hour + attempt to dramatize the crime with a vaguely constructed plot about Dave Schultz's brother was half-baked and unsuccessful. So the screenplay nomination is puzzling to me, even though I liked the directing and the overall grim atmosphere.
The sad thing is that so many critics are adopting Team America as the vital alternative, as if either film is quality satire.
All Hollywood can offer anymore is naughty little boy humor. The cutting absurdism of Duck Soup or the inventive wit of The Great Dictator are lost--and vastly superior--film comedy artforms.
