This movie is amazing and I have yet to see great criticisms of it.
Very economical script. Amazing visual storytelling. For the most part World is unfolded for you through visual cues and context clues. There are a few more explicit explanations, but the most important world building is done wordlessly.
Characterization was also efficient. On its own the children aren’t the most developed characters but let’s not pretend this movie exists alone. The depiction of Jakes challenges as a father is very effective. Neytiri though is given basically nothing.
High framerate was great. I don’t understand the technical reasons to have to use 24 fps though. Shots in 24 looked less great
I appreciate Wes Anderson's shot composition, but I wasn't a fan of the storytelling in the French Dispatch. A little too stream-of-consciousness. I usually found the asides frustrating and distracting, not charming. The juxtaposition of shots felt repetitive. Not his strongest movie.
House of the Devil takes the worst aspects of 80s horror and modern horror. "Tension" is "built" while the dull main character walks around aimlessly. At the end you are suddenly and tactlessly assaulted with every trope from modern James Wan style horror movies.
The 30s aesthetic doesn’t totally work. It looks digital but the audio sounds authentic. If you aren’t in the know about all these people it’s extremely difficult to follow. Didn’t understand what was happening at all. I genuinely couldn’t understand 90% of Oldmans lines.

This is more of a thriller like The Firm than it is like other 90s internet movies such as Hackers or Johnny Mnemonic. Not as much funMovie comment on The French Dispatch
