I understand this movie is 60 years old, but the way women are treated and portrayed is disgusting. Way too misogynist, didn't age well... like most of Hollywood crap.
A bunch of middle class 40 year old straight white men are bored with their lack of real problems and start drinking alcohol irresponsibly, ending up screwing everyone's life around them.
Edgy and intense acid trip with an experimental electric score. Didn't like watching a grown up adult going to bed with a 16-year-old girl. We can't still tolerate this crap.
I don't know if it's a great or mediocre film, but it made me think a lot and also sank me deep into a sea of emotions that I forgot movies could make you feel. It was a whole experience.
I don't know if it was really necessary to develope Laura's character that much. Probably one the most interesting features was all the mistery surrounding her personality, when we got to guess or imagine how would she be like, based upon what the ones who knew her told us. Despite of that, it has some great (and scary) scenes. I really liked the one on the room behind de Roadhouse where she gets to dance with Donna and the other guys, it felt really obscure and twisted and was very representative of how dark everything was getting. Also, the idea that Laura was doing drugs and trying to act 'bad' to stop being 'pure' so Bob won't get her really captivated me. Is definitely worth watching and absolutely necessary if you want to get into Twin Peaks world (specially after third season release). Enjoy the ride!
By the middle of the film I was feeling kind of let down and wasn't expecting much of a twist from other sci fi flicks I've seen with similar elements (such as The Day The Earth Stood Still). But after the second half developes and things start getting more significance I felt completely blown away and so touched. I'm amazed by the way Villenueve lead us to the place we got by the end. To add the obvious, Amy Adams was beyond amazing, as usual.
It's been a while since I watched a contemporary horror flick with this strong atmosphere around it. I felt haunted from the first scene, which introduces the story magnificently. Also, the soundtrack reinforces that maddening feeling very efficiently. Can't wait to see Mitchell's following films.
The intimacy between Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy is beyond amazing. I can't think of another cinema couple with such a strong connection in front of the camera. Beautiful closing for a fantastic trilogy.
Incredible mind-blowing film. It's easy to watch it as a bizarre horror-comedy flick but the message behind it is so powerful and coherent that, once you realize it, that's the real scarry shit. Superb!
The way Lynch handle the tension troughout the whole film is spectacular. This is to me his creepiest film, specially in those scenes from the first half when the guy walks through the hallway and all you get to see his the darkness consuming his figure. I was terrified.
Nice soft comedy with smart lines and good performances by its actors. It truly suprised me in a good way, I saw a lot of Woody Allen's early movies gist. Probably one of the best contemporary comedies I've seen in the past year. Highly recommended.
It did have a few funny moments and the cast has very good actors but it's full of clichés indeed and the plot and screenplay were not great. For me it was a mediocre one.
What an amazing cinematography, there's no Scorsese film that would dissapoint me neither does Leonardo di Caprio. Great cast, script and art photography. I think it does not have the recognition that deserves.
