I don't think that “One Hundred Film and One Country, Italy” was a suitable choice for the official lists on the first place. It's a list of movies, predominantly by auteurs, produced in an arbitrary timeframe (1942-78), and only a couple of them can be considered “for the masses”. It claims that those movies are “essential to Italian cinema”, but those restrictions leave out a lot of movies that are valid representatives of the Italian movie production. The other Italian cinema list, “Il Grande Cinema Italiano”, offers a much better – but far from perfect – overview of the country's film history, even better than FilmTV's list.

(And I'm fine with making movie lists unofficial. Ticking off movies from lists is a fun side activity, but watching movies should be more than that. Official lists also serve a better purpose, i.e. guiding watchers through the history of cinema along a particular genre, country, or mindset: If we get better lists, I think it's okay to get rid of the old ones.)

In the discussion for the new official lists (https://discuss.icheckmovies.com/t/poll-lists-that-should-be-official-nominations-due-april-29/2327/120), the user who added a list from the same source (https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/guide+to+african+cinema/assilem23/) argued that this official list has only the titles featured in the index, and not all the movies actually mentioned in the book. Maybe it would be nice to amend this list?

I saw the full list on Mubi and it's a very good one. There's a good mixture of classics, oldies, blockbusters, art house and cult B-movies, and it made me reconsider some titles I wasn't interested in before. Thanks to SiH13 for adding this list to iCM, keep up the good work!

Segnalo, visto che non l'ho ancora fatto, che ho creato un paio di liste sul David di Donatello: una relativa ai migliori film italiani e una relativa ai migliori film dell'Unione Europea.

daisyaday raises a good question. I think it's ok for us to check this movie if we have seen all the three reels that have survived so far. After all, (1) we can't see more of this movie at the moment and probably we will never be able to do so, and (2) I think it's reasonable to check a movie even if you haven't seen 100% of it. Sure, I won't usually check a movie if I've seen only half of it, and not even if I have seen 80% of it, but this would be an ecception, as it is completely impossible to watch more. And at the same time I can't say I haven't watched this movie.

What do you use iCheckMovies for? Do you only use it to keep track of your checks, or do you mainly use the website to find new movies, etc.

I use it mostly to keep track of the movies I’ve seen. I rarely use it to discover new movies (there are many other sources for that, and they are more in-depth than iCM), but I use it to choose which movie I should see among the ones I own and have not seen yet (example: I have X, Y and Z in my watchlist and DVD library, but Y is in more toplists than X and Z, so I’ll watch Y tonight).

A way to discover new lists would be great. There are 2429 personal lists at the moment and the only way to browse them is looking through dozens of pages. For example, it would be nice to have a page with all the “upcoming” lists, i.e. that are collecting more favorites than usual in these days.

Also, the recommendations tend to favor movies that are already popular. For example, “Fight Club” is at the top of my recommended movies, but it’s also the most favorited movie ever. I would like that movies that are unusually (i.e. more than average) favorited by my neighbors also show up in my “recommended” list.

TV movies and episodes, for example. Also, I don’t find the activity feed useful – but it doesn’t hurt either.
