I had a great time with this movie. Some of the humor is a bit dated (relying on the protagonist being rather obnoxious) but the action and inventiveness were a lot of fun.
The opening sequence was so silly, I loved it! Well paced and full of good kills, this is very much a style of horror movie I missed seeing. Nice surprise
I really enjoyed this one, I thought the action setpieces were full of fantastical moments.. it had a looseness to it that I did not mind, especially in a family movie. And there's some great spiritual imagery going on, too. David Lowery is THE modern fantasy director, and as far as I'm concerned this is a fresh take on the story
I have to agree with Siskoid on the weak horror action.. it's full of nice cinematography though, and - although over the top - I appreciate that this is essentially a movie about MK Ultra
Worth watching for the animation alone, especially if you're a Henry Selick fan. A little too YA, and it feels like the script could've used another pass for pacing, but I really enjoyed it.
Well shot and a good lead performance. It could've gone a little deeper but I thought it was a nice reflection on the void of identity and prevalence of narcissism at the heart of modern society.
