The gymnasium where the first death occurs has a sign promoting the "1999 athletics competiton" ;)
I didn't understand why until the end though, GREAT twist.
Overall, very fun to watch, excellent filming that builds the pressure up to every (gory) death, had a fun time trying to guess what was going to happen before being surprised.
And even though the deaths are over the top (it IS final destination's trademark), the visual effects are realistic and very believable for the most of them.
Great writing, great filming, got what I expected going in and some more.
If you don't go in expecting something serious (I mean come on the title says it all) then you come out having had a pretty fun time. Plus the movie is self conscious, when Wilde reveals the aliens are [SPOILERS] here for gold, Ford kicks in saying "now that's just ridiculous"

The 'crocodile pit with a disco ball' scene nearly killed me. Awesome movie.
