Eye rolling cliché movie made up for American audience. The plot and the characters are just too stupid, and I did not find the Russel Crow's performance any good. I actually enjoyed just Franco Nero's one, unintentionally comical though.
A little hidden gem. The characterization, especially of secondary characters, is unusually deep and interesting for romantic stories, very realistic and moving. And the dance scene is really amazing, as it is the whole performance of Silvana Mangano.
Directed by Rintarō; character design by Katsuhiro Ōtomo; soundtrack by Keith Emerson;
the destruction of New York and the eruption of Mount Fuji,
all with full painted backgrounds animated by Madhouse.
This movie is not Akira, but is underrated as hell, how it's not even in a single official list?
It's good, yes, actually very good. But man, 22 official lists? This put it among the overrated movies, I'm sorry. And it's not because of the lack of a solid story, which is not a problem, or because of some specifical flaw. Just it's very good, but not such a masterpiece, compared to better movies that are in one or even in zero official lists.
Incredible movie. An amazing original music, and even better not original soundtrack selection. Astonishing acting performances from everybody and very interesting characters. A not foregone screenplay loosely based on true events, which is deep and painful like a stab wound. Just some glances at the beauty and tragedy of the world: the Italian poetry, the Dalmatian heart, the migrants' souls. All this masterfully directed; thank you Gabriele.
I don't like electronic music at all, but this movie is just a masterpiece.
Best movie of history of cinema? Of course not.
One of the best animated ones? Yes, because of many reasons.
Some Spartan-style national pride bullshit here, but without the stunning visuals; however is some watchable action fantasy, better than many others.
But the music is just amazing. To be honest I watched it just to listen Tankian work, and I was not disappointed. Mongolian throat singing was a predictable little touch to the soundtrack, but excellently added and executed.
I found it a very good and interesting movie. Also technically impressive given the time it was shot. The only thing that really bother me is the very last scene. I can stand and understand even sovietic propaganda, but the last image just ruin all the story, which I really enjoyed until then.
@ deepak1990, it seems that You Tube video is another movie. The correct one should be this one: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:L%27arriv%C3%A9e_d%27un_train_%C3%A0_La_Ciotat_(1895)_-_fr%C3%A8res_Lumi%C3%A8re.webm
Quite good kids movie. Classic story without much surprise, but amazing painted backgrounds. Also very cliché depiction of Paris, but in this case cliché was a good choice. I do not comment the songs because I never liked this musical thing in movies, and I suspect I never will.
Surprisingly good. It starts without a bang, but it gets better and better as the plot flows, until the awesome final. Not to mention the soundtrack by Bacalov and New Trolls, which is a masterpiece on it's own!
@ynrozturk I don't know how pasta is cooked in Turkey, but here in Italy you definitely don't want pasta to float in its own water, you always throw all of it (being sure you threw ALL) before mixing with the sauce. There are just very few and specific recipes that make exception to this.
Anyway in the movie they're in the USA, so I guess they can cook it in whatever messy way they want.
A good movie, a thriller not foregone. I think it catch some of the mood of the last period of the World War II in mainland UK, with the patriotism and struggles of a fully engaged country in a war that is hard and horrible, yet a little distant, in which the game of spies of the cold war already started. The flaw of the movie is actually its patriotism, with one single point of view. Beside this is a well told tale.
A masterpiece! So Japanese, and yet it can not fail to hit straight to the heart of humans from whichever culture. A love hymn to life, to food, and to cinema.
