Funny how the set design is technically super cheap in this, using only 3-4 locations. However, it's one of the few movies depicting a dystopian world that actually looks dystopian as hell.
I came in expecting some goofy action film, especially with its tag as the bloodiest film ever made. Instead, I got something that is incredibly ambitious and well-made, even taking into account that most of it was probably filmed in a broom closet. It's also INCREDIBLY avant-garde.
A deconstruction of 80s hammy action films. It reminds me a lot of Shura. Taking the tropes of a brutal genre that whitewashes that, and emphasizes on that brutality to the point that it becomes a horror film. Definitely feels like something Refn or Noe would make, but so much better than any of their works. An all out masterpiece.
The avant-garde RomCom. Jumps between so many different plot points that it becomes an incoherent mess, on top of a very avant-garde dialogue style that I've seen it compared to Pynchon's work countless times. Highly recommended.
