Atrocious writing. Poorly developed characters. Numerous plot holes and illogical motivations. Terrible accents. Ridiculous sexual scenes. Absurd red-scare portrayal of Russian society. The twist is interesting but foreseeable and not worthy of going through 2 hours of watching this hot mess.

While the premise is intriguing, there is little character development and when it happens, it seems to be more of a mutation from a stereotype to another: Kovacs remains the same macho guy that has sexual relationships with good looking women throughout the series. Ortega stays the same sexy, bad ass female that absurdly ends up having more authority than her boss at certain points in the series.
The naive sister becomes the evil villain obsessed with an unhealthy view of family relations
. Almost all characters seem to be unmoved by ethical dilemmas and they advance in the plot mostly by shooting or torturing other people/AIs without showing remorse or thinking twice. That is a huge let down to people that were interested in finding out in what ways humanity would deal with ethical issues in such a complex and advanced technological era.
I would still recommend Altered Carbon to sci-fi fans, solely for the cyberpunk aesthetic and universe, but one should keep in mind that this is no Blade Runner or Ghost in the Shell. Enjoy!
The Cloverfield Paradox fails to deliver explanations regarding the Cloverfield universe while also failing to deliver its generic space horror slasher plot. The pseudo-science is so confusing that one wishes the events from the last movies were left alone as mystery. Moral of the story: You can't just stick the name of a popular franchise to a turd, shoot a couple more takes to mock consistency and deliver it to the masses. Underwhelming and disappointing. 3/10
Last year's space horror Life made a bigger impression on me. I would recommend Coherence (2013) to those who enjoy the multiverse narrative.
Mother! is basically the Bible dressed up as an artsy horror thriller with a plot that makes absolutely no sense outside the biblical allegorical narrative. If you buy into the Biblical narrative and put motives and allegories above a solid plot and character development, you will probably love this. If not, you might be disappointed.
Thought provoking? Yes. Not because of its motives or allegory (I could have seen those Bible references coming from a mile away), but at the end of the movie I kept on thinking of realistic, credible plots and multidimensional characters that would have made this movie work.
The cinematography looks great and I enjoyed the aggressive gory scenes but the obvious metaphors they were conveying through gratuitously absurd plot devices

The universe painted is extremely engaging, from the cyber technology and philosophy to the architecture and design. However, one cannot get over the sub-par writing.
