This is an odd film. So many of the shots are beautifully filmed but they feel almost out of place in a movie that doesn't really know what it is. It tries to sit on the fence of being a mystery/thriller/action/character drama all at once and the lack of focus makes it feel as if the course of the film is always shifting to something else. The acting is pretty good. Quite possibly the work in the editing room created the mess of direction in the film.

We also aren't given a major amount of character development to go on. The film feels very much like an episode of Narcos or perhaps the pilot episode of a tv show, we just aren't given a whole lot to work with.

Relatively entertaining if you are a Star Wars fan. I did like how they delved into the "dark side" of fandom where it consumes your life and effectively runs you like an addiction.

Where the Matrix is a dedicated film series, this is a one-off kind of film in the same vein. Who'd have thought it would become such a cult classic. It might be a bit dumb, but it's a lot of fun and despite being called out as a clone of the Matrix it has its own story and the action sequences are pretty cool.

Very well acted, a little twisty and turny which guarantees multiple viewings. Compared to the action-packed spy thrillers of the modern era this movie feels like child's play but it is a superb film. It's somewhat common knowledge that most spy work occurs in the shadows and without much excitement, this dark film captures that.

I found it more entertaining than the first one. Bautista has a wonderful ability to make you laugh just by laughing himself. The soundtracks did feel less seamlessly woven into the movie as the first one but it could be because the novelty isn't as fresh, being the sequel after all.

WWII films featuring the Holocaust are seemingly a dime a dozen but this one isn't too bad. The characters are simple but believable and they had enough budget to certainly make a great effort.

If I didn't know what to say after the 4th installment then you can imagine my struggle after watching this one, and a 6th one coming next? Give me a break, does anyone actually watch this series anymore? So the 4th movie was all about Star Wars and this one takes on an Indiana Jones feel with a smattering of other references thrown in. It feels like a movie series past its prime but did it ever have a prime in the first place?

It's a good movie by David Lean, it struck me as sharing a few similarities with To Kill a Mockingbird. In true David Lean fashion the scenery and environments are fantastic. The only thing I felt was slightly disappointing was the third act. It didn't seem compelling enough of a reason that spoiler It's just odd filmmaking for David Lean, perhaps his hands were totally tied by the book and its source material.

Really an excellent film. Simply the best political thriller I've ever seen. Angela Lansbury is downright sinister and steals every scene she is in. I'd always known that it was a controversial film but I didn't really understand why. This film was literally released into theaters within the 12-day period of the Cuban Missile Crisis. That is controversial enough considering its subject matter. Then splash in a few anti-communist characters who are the exact opposite and you have a formula for delicious controversy.

Much better than Godzilla but still mostly a popcorn flick to the core, they seriously learned from the mistakes and missteps in Godzilla, though.

It started off somewhat good as far as popcorn flicks go, the opening sequence jumps right into the action and heartbreak. After spoiler it loses all its potency for me. The monster battles are shrouded in dust and smoke and I tend to stop caring if I can't see anything.

"King of the monsters - savior of our city?" Was that some kind of joke on the TV headline? LOL

A little goofy but very, very entertaining. The new remake with Tom Cruise makes this look like pure gold in comparison.

I liked it better than Force Awakens even though I think I might have mentally asked myself "what is going on?" more times than the previous movie. The character arcs are all over the place, just when we think we might actually get some explanations from the previous film, the director appears to reply "Nah, don't pay attention to that, forget that happened in the last movie, or sorry no sequel for that character." It's action packed, but I'm sorry to say a good deal of the magic has left the Star Wars franchise. The visuals, however, are simply breathtaking. The CGI certainly doesn't fry your brain here. The humor is straight out of a Marvel film, you could literally piece the lines into any Marvel offering and you'd never tell the difference.

Whether or not JJ Abrams crippled this movie by providing a shaky foundation with Force Awakens is debatable but it brings me almost to tears that I now have to "check my brain at the door" in order to enjoy a Star Wars movie. Heart wrenching...

The entire concept of bringing back old movies in order to wring more money out of audiences is truly on full display here. Perhaps even more pathetic than this movie being made at all is that they don't even try to make it decent. The character development isn't there, the villain is pointless, the jokes hit with total *thuds*... It's just all going through the motions in order to grab more cash.

I don't know what the script writers were thinking, I really don't. It's like some of them got together and thought "how can we add the cheesiest dialogue possible here?" No doubt a rant against sand was their crown jewel. The only thing I can figure is that people behind the scenes hated the character of Anakin, like a lot.

The action scenes are ok, but the vast amount of CGI just makes it seem like a giant cartoon with the odd real actor stuck somewhere in the middle. It's like they forgot that you need a lot of real anchor props in CGI environments to help the audience focus.

Hayden Christiansen can act, that's the amazing thing, but no actor would survive this dialogue. The script itself seems to try its darndest to drive a planet sized wedge between Anakin and Padme and it's a shame that nobody bothered to try and fix it. Very interesting that in interviews Hayden claims that he signed a contract to play the character without even seeing the script first, an extremely uncommon thing to do for an actor to take that chance. I can't help but wonder if he might have approached things differently or even if he might have had some sway over his character if the script had been available first.

I've read an interesting theory recently that Palpatine specifically manipulated Anakin to be closer to Padme so that they would fall in love and he would be able to use that conflict to groom his future apprentice and the movie scenes seem to lend themselves to this theory. If true, it makes a lot more sense that their chemistry is awful because they're both pawns and not naturally supposed to be together.

There's enough CGI here to literally fry your brain and due to the sheer over-saturation of it I can never take the environments very seriously. None of the clones are even real, no actual armor, nothing, not even the ones standing one foot from Yoda in a close-up shot. It's just super lazy filmmaking and really brings down the quality.

Continuing a trend started in AOTC the screen chemistry between Anakin and Padme doesn't exist and I think so much of the failed energy comes from the script. It feels... very much like soap opera quality. So much of it is downright cringe worthy. There are so many lines of dialogue where I find myself covering my eyes and smirking.

Interesting on the choice of pacing in this film. After the opening battle above Coruscant the entire film is almost a series of clips separated by one of those scene transitions that is classic of Star Wars. It doesn't allow for a whole lot of development. There's one minute of Anakin and Padme, then we focus a little on Obi-Wan, then back to the couple again for a few more bits of dialogue. I think part of why ROTS suffers so greatly in the minds of fans is that there is just so much crammed into it and the character development doesn't build up correctly to events that affect the rest of the Star Wars universe so it all just feels rushed and underdeveloped. Supposedly the uncut movie was 4 hours long and to be brutally honest I want to see it. I think it would be vastly superior to the theatrical version and give the right amount of time needed to develop the plot and characters.

On a side note, if you are a little bummed out that the Clone Wars start at the end of AOTC and end about halfway into this movie then check out the Clone Wars TV series. Not only does it add a ton of storyline to help understand the films but it also does a beautiful job of highlighting Anakin's descent to the dark side. I can't recommend it enough. I mean you can't help but think that characters like Grevious were desperately in need of more screen time.

The first movie came out 14 years ago... how is that possible? Somehow it works its way into the film because at this point the whole mythos feels old and worn out. I recall a line of dialogue from one of the other movies (can't remember which) along the lines of "the age of pirates is over, and the world has gotten smaller." It certainly feels like it here.

Johnny Depp is ok, Javier Bardem is acceptable but the plot weighs down the film and feels like the writers dug around in their magic box of sea mythology, dragged something out, and slapped it on a screen. Now we have a sixth film to look forward to.

yippee...

If you are a Star Wars fan then hunting down and sitting through this will graduate you to "dyed in the wool" fan status. It's bad, like Holy Nerf herder bad in so many ways. It has literally no plot at all and I'm totally convinced that the creators were high at the time of making it and also expected their audience to be equally high. When I settled down to watch it, my overall attitude was "I've heard it's bad, but as a crazed SW fan, I'm sure its bad in a cult classic kind of way." No, not even close, full stop.

I mean during filming you can't tell me that literally the entire cast, crew, lighting techs, sound techs, etc. were standing there filming this stuff and didn't realize how awful it was. It literally blows the mind.

I'll be honest, I hated Episode 8, but it is actually possible that part of Star Wars is worse than that, and this is it.

It's a pretty bland action movie to be honest. It doesn't even really qualify as a true popcorn flick because the action scenes and fights are just not up to par. I kept waiting for a climatic battle and then before you know it the movie ends. It's different enough from the original Mummy series but now it looks like this is just the beginning of a new series of the Mummy/Van Helsing/League of Extraordinary Gentlemen kind of mash-up. No thanks, seen it all before.

I honestly thought that "Dr. Jekyll" was just some clever alias and I facepalmed when I found out it's the actual character.

I think I held off commenting here because I think the new sequel Alien: Covenant gives us a good idea of what this movie is all about. In short, it wasn't enough for Ridley Scott to make more Alien movies. He figured that audiences wanted more, it wasn't enough to just watch eggs and facehuggers and aliens running around killing people, we apparently needed to know the origins of the famous horror movie creature. Thus the new series of Alien movies were born starting here.

The question I keep asking myself is... do we really need to know the origin story here? When Prometheus came out, the vast majority of reviewers didn't even label it an "Alien" film, but merely taking place in the same universe. It certainly tries to tell this massive and grand story behind the simple yet awesome creature that is the Xenomorph and I can't help but feel that it is just too complex. It's probably why Covenant was so simple in comparison (and I would argue far too simple.) It's just seems like such a tortuous way to tackle philosophy, mythology, and universal concepts within a film series that is primarily based on action and horror in the perfect amounts.

One of the reviewers on the DVD dust jacket claimed that this was "better than Aliens!" which is pure herecy. This movie differs from Prometheus in that with the previous movie we couldn't figure out whether or not to actually call it an Alien film whereas in this one, the title clearly proclaims it, and it isn't that good at all.

Character development is almost non-existent, couldn't care less when so-and-so gets decapitated by an alien and after the movie is over the only human character's name I remembered was Danny McBride's character as "Tennessee", and the androids, of course. It's as if Ridley Scott totally forgot what was one of the most essential parts of the classic films, the resonance of the characters. These actors might as well be aliens themselves for all the development they get. James Franco's part (barely even a part) in the movie is hilariously pointless. The movie is also unbelievably predictable and the plot twist at the end is hardly a twist at all if you have assumed from the get-go that's what happened off screen.

I could be wrong, but I find that I'm starting to care less and less how the classic Xenomorph has come into existence with all the black goo and deadly pathogen nonsense. I'm to the point that all I want are classic Alien movies and possibly the next film will be a step in that direction.

Truly a great movie. Just when you think you have Bogart's character pegged and down for the count then Jose Ferrer swoops in to open up a giant can of worms in your stomach at the end. Bogart is at the top of his game and yet I still would have loved to see him in more scenes, he's the main character and yet at the same time manages to share the movie with the whole cast. Great drama and great scenes abound.

My friend commented it was very similar to The Poseidon Adventure which was spot on, because both that disaster flick and this one shared the same director. It is rather tiresome for me and drags on a lot. If you have by chance seen The Poseidon Adventure then this is basically the same thing except in a building with fire instead of a ship with water.

I've always wondered why people hold this up as the indisputable best Star Wars movie but after watching all other episodes several times I think it becomes clear. This episode just gets all of it right. The action is top notch, the characters are brilliantly written, and even though the story bounces around a bit it flows very well. There isn't a true all-out space battle which usually makes for my favorite scenes in the series but the lightsaber duel at the end makes up for it. It's pretty much the best in the series and even features some hardcore hide-and-seek from the combatants. No other duel has that.

This is mostly about the life stories of bit actors on Star Wars. The action figure scenes at the beginning only serve to tell you who the actors played if you are super familiar with the bit characters of the movie, which I am not. Would have been more helpful to properly introduce the actor/character matches in the beginning rather than a half hour into the movie. It also suffers immensely by not having the rights to show any movie footage from the films. There are countless times when actual footage would have been perfect and yet it never comes.

I think the editing tends to fail the movie because instead of linking the actor's stories back to Star Wars they sometimes delve into everyday life stories which just aren't that interesting nor relevant to Star Wars at all. A somewhat interesting watch. It isn't so much a Star Wars story as it is a human story. Be forewarned.
