@Erland G, perhaps you haven’t read the book, but one of the things that makes Dune unique is that it’s NOT a traditional hero’s journey. In fact one of the major focal points of the story is the subversion of that narrative. Hopefully we’ll get a part two to bring that point home. I understand why you would think that after just watching part one, but the story does not end the way of a traditional hero’s journey. It’s so much better than that.

La Strada is great, but this is superior.

Practical effects baby. Yeah! Way better than the weightless CGI junk we see today.

Displays the real creative talent George Lucas had as a burgeoning filmmaker. It's hard to believe this visually appealing and creative film came from the same guy as those god-awful Star Wars prequels.

Very good thriller. But one of the best movies of all time? Not even close.

Sam Worthington is terrible. The script is terrible. Nice to look at though.

Nobody is good in this movie. Even Pacino is horrible. This movie doesn't have a single redeeming quality. Absolute garbage.

Ridiculous and completely false. The general idea about widespread corruption is true, but the presentation is way too conspiratorial and without evidence to be taken seriously.

Um... yes, it is awful. Very very very very awful. It's worse than I ever could have possibly imagined.

District 9 is the most overpraised film of the decade. The writing is god-awful. Simply recreating the conditions of apartheid and then plopping literal aliens in the place of blacks doesn't count as political commentary. It's pretty amateurish. Not to mention the film completely devolves into a mediocre action movie in the second half.

It's good, but I prefer his later, less slapstick, comedy. Definitely a must-see though.

Not that great. The message definitely applies today but it's totally a relic of its time. Feels very outdated (contrasted with 2001, which feels cutting edge even today).

I really don't understand how people can think this movie is slow. Every moment something interesting is happening.

Lacks internal consistency. The premise is to show what would really happen if somebody tried to become a superhero in real life -- they'd get their ass kicked, obviously. But then the movie completely abandons this when they introduce hit girl, a 10-year-old who can beat up grown men. Either stick with reality, or go fantasy. You can't have both, not when they directly contradict each other at least. Poorly written.
